Primary Purpose:

 

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures

Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance

Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment

Supervision/Monitor Responsibilities:

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Cleaning

 

  1. Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, wiping down student desks, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.

 

  1. Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat, clean and clear of unsightly marks.

 

  1. Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.

 

  1. Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.

 

Maintenance and Repair

 

  1. Assist with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.

 

  1. Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.

 

  1. Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.

 

  1. Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal.

 

  1. Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.

 

  1. Assist in setting up facilities for special events.

 

  1. Performs periodic floor maintenance, including stripping, refinishing, and buffing.

 

  1. Adjusts, sharpens, and performs maintenance (including oil changes) on all items of motorized equipment issued for use.

 

Safety

 

  1. Assist with opening and closing building each school day.

 

  1. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.

 

  1. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
  1. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.

 

  1. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

 

  1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

 

  1. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

 

  1. Maintains current Data Control Sheets on all campus chemicals used.

  1. Keeps Maintenance and Transportation Director or designee informed of status or supplies and equipment needed for performance of custodial duties.

 

  1. Immediately reports any unsafe or unsanitary area or equipment to the principal and immediate supervisor.

 

  1. Assists Maintenance and Transportation Director and/or maintenance repairmen in transporting large projects requiring extra labor, i.e., concrete work, and the like.

 

  1. Carries out assigned duties during fire drill or disaster drill.

 

  1. Turns out lights and locks building securely, as required, at the end of each working day.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal and/or Maintenance and Transportation Director or designee.

Equipment Used:

 

Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, shampooer, lawn mower, edger, and weed eater.

Working Conditions:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and ladders. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.
