Job Title:              Academic Dean                                                 Wage/Hour Status:  Exempt

 

Reports to:         Principal                                                                      Terms of Employment:  205 days

Primary Purpose:

 

                Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional program and campus

                level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

 

Qualifications:

 

                Education/Certification

                Master’s degree

                

 

                Special Knowledge/Skills:

                Thorough understanding of school operation

                Working knowledge of curriculum  and instruction

                Ability to evaluate instructional  program and teaching effectiveness

                Ability to implement policy and procedures

                Working knowledge in Texas Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Resource System

                Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

                Ability to coordinate campus support operations

 

                Experience:

                 Three years experience as a classroom teacher

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Instructional Management

 

    1. Assist the school principal with the overall administration of the instructional program at the campus level and coordinate assigned student activities and services.
    2. Provide leadership in the identification, evaluation, and selection of instructional programs, resources, and equipment for increased student achievement.
    3. Facilitate improved student performance through the professional growth of teachers and staff as measured by course work and assessment data.
    4. Provide quality instructional support and feedback on the instructional effectiveness of the campus.

     

    1. Work with the principal to develop and implement the master schedule.
    2. Assist in designing and providing professional development based on data analysis and campus needs.
    3. Meet regularly with academic department heads and assistant principals to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum.
    4. Manage Response to Intervention (RTI) programs including assisting with the identification of at-risk students and coordinating early intervention strategies.
    5. Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.

     

    1. Assists the Principal in carrying out the general duties of the principalship in organization, administration, and supervision.

School/Organizational Improvement

 

  1. Facilitate and assist with the development of an effective campus improvement plan based on student needs.

 

  1. Plan and coordinate tutorials, interventions, additional support and resources, and other instructional programs for students in need of assistance.
  2. Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis and that the findings are used to make instructional programs and services more effective.

 

  1. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

 

 

Personnel Management

 

 

  1. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
  2. Perform Academic walkthroughs

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

 

 

  1. Supervise operations in principal’s absence.

 

  1. Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.

 

  1. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.

 

  1. Is familiar with the disposition of records and assists the Principal in this function as required by the Records Management Officer.

 

  1. Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities and, as appropriate, delegations of authority as may be required by the Principal.

  2. Assists the Principal in promoting positive community relations

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

  1. Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with School principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, Paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.

 

Working Conditions:

 

                Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional districtwide 

travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
